The problem
Too much sunlight hurts our eyes and makes it difficult to read, use our computers, or work in comfort. Glare is either too much or intrusive light; glare is present as either direct glare or contrast glare.

Direct glare is simply too much light. Contrast glare is where one part of the vision area is much brighter than another. One important fact must be remembered: glare is light – it is impossible to alter glare without altering the light entering through the glazing.

The solution: Glare can be easily solved using modern, high performance, high durability window film. These micro-thin, high technology products provide a wide range of options with a variety of properties to meet your particular needs.

Direct glare reduction with window film

There are hundreds of window films that reduce direct glare, from a ‘mirror’ finish to a more subtle appearance such as grey, bronze, copper, blue and neutral. A good guide to deciding the type of window film you need is the Glare Reduction values that window film manufacturers provide for all their products. Glare Reduction is simply the reduction in direct glare or the percentage reduction in visible light. Use these solutions:

Problems
Glare from computer screen 90 % +
Severe eyestrain / headaches, impossible to read or write 90 % +
Painful eyestrain / headaches, difficulty in reading or writing 80 % +
Uncomfortable eyestrain, some difficulty in reading / writing 80 % +
Slightly uncomfortable 30 % +
Comfortable No glare reduction needed

The most popular window films provide a Glare Reduction of 60 % or more. Some even offer Glare Reduction of more than 90 %. And you need not worry about the film being too dark – one of the most popular types of window film for glare reduction has a visible light transmission of 15 %, but sufficient visible light enters through the glazing to satisfy people inside the building – otherwise they would not buy these products. Furthermore, the range of window film products available is so wide that you will be able find a product that balances out your need to reduce glare against your need for visible light.

Contrast glare reduction with window film
There are many window films available to reduce contrast glare, from an ‘acid etched’ finish to white, black, patterned and decorative effects.

All of these window films work by diffusing the light, softening the edges of windows and shadows so that the change from very bright to less bright is gradual; the human eye is able to more easily adapt to the change from bright to darker.

Simply use the window film that gives the appearance you want.
